Alan Smith, DVM, Part Owner and Manager

Dr. Smith is originally from Picayune, Mississippi. He graduated from Pearl River Central High School in 2009. Dr. Smith played football at Hinds Community College from 2009 to 2010 before he moved on to Mississippi State University where he studied Animal and Dairy Science. In 2017 he graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Smith officially joined the staff at Animal Health Clinic. In November of 2020 he became part owner and manager of the clinic.

Dr. Smith’s history with Animal Health Clinic goes back a long way. He began working at the clinic in 2008 as a part time kennel technician and continued his work relationship at different times throughout his college years. Dr. Smith also gained experience working as a ranch hand/feed hand at Mississippi State University’s Beef and Dairy units throughout his undergraduate studies. He worked with the university’s Meats Lab as well from 2011-2013.

Dr. Smith married Sara Catherine in October of 2013. They are the proud parents of a son named Ross Alan who is 5; a daughter named Ella Catherine who is 4; and Emmarie Lane born February 2022. The Smith’s pet family includes a border collie named Duke, and a mini schnauzer named Daisy. They also have a collection of cows, chickens, and horses on their family farm in McNeil, Mississippi.

Besides being a veterinarian, you could also define Dr. Smith as a musician. He enjoys singing and playing acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and violin mostly at his church, Serenity Baptist Church in Poplarville. He is an active member and in addition to playing music, he also teaches Sunday School. Dr. Smith also has been an active participant at his local Crossfit gym since 2019. When it’s time to have fun with the family, they all love to head for Disney World, their favorite vacation destination.

A fun fact about Dr. Smith is that contrary to popular belief, he is not Dr. Kevin Smith’s (former owner) son or nephew, however they are 3rd cousins!
